We visited a restored Palestinian house, currently used as the Dar Al Sabagh Centre for Diaspora Studies The owners are in Chile. The British Mandate did not allow their family to come back because they were not given citizenship under the Ottoman Empire. Reason for not having Ottoman citizenship? Complicated.

That night, we visited a new part of the city, First Station. There was a welcome party for hundreds of diasporic Jewish people, families young and old from Pittsburgh to visit the land.

I made me wonder, what determines which diaspora groups are welcomed or not?

By the way, Sami sings love songs to his tea-in-the-making, because “love is the most important ingredient!” And it makes a whole lot of difference. The best tea I ever tasted. If you go to Bethlehem, you won’t regret visiting Sami. Also, since Banksy is everywhere here, I suspect he has secretly visited Sami for tea more than once.
