From Mount of the Beatitudes to Mount Tabor, I begin to understand why people in the Bible go to high places to pray. Some may go there to feel closer to heaven. But there is more: looking out from a high vantage point, you think differently of yourself and the world.
The buildings here are build with local stone, straight from the quarry. Black basalt from the north, ivory Jerusalem stone, and red stones from Bethlehem called the Mitzeh Ahmar. No bricks, no paint.
For lunch, we were hosted by a Kibbutz community on our way back to Jerusalem. It did not even occur to me that socialist ideals existed in this democratic country.
